Feather’s Edge Demo Release and everything leading up to it

Since April, the spotlight on Feather’s Edge has shined bright. We’ve had an exciting few months; here’s an update on what we’ve been up to!

But first, our latest Major Announcement:

We’re thrilled to announce that our demo for Feather’s Edge is live! The team really gave their all these past few months, we’re really proud of the work we’ve done and we’re excited to see all of you get a chance to enjoy the demo.

You can play it on Steam right now: https://store.steampowered.com/app/5094710/Feathers_Edge_Demo

In the demo, you’ll see a sample of the full game experience. Enjoy a slice of its core gameplay and mechanics within a selection of the environments, powers, enemies, and bosses from the full game. If you’ve had a chance to play and enjoyed it, please consider leaving us a review on Steam!

Bird (and Monkey) Business:

A few months earlier, we got together in-person for our annual company retreat. As a fully remote team this time is important for us to catch-up and hang out, but also to work on new game ideas! This year we focused on creating new bosses for Feather’s Edge. Over the course of a four day jam the team played around with a bunch of boss ideas, and built out the foundations for a few that would end up making their way into the demo

When we weren’t jamming we spent the rest of our time playing games together, keeping warm by fires, walking along the mountain and eating good food. If you happen to find yourself in Cape Town, we loved Izakaya Kúkai and would highly recommend grabbing a bite. A major highlight of the trip was also going to World of Birds (where there were also a lot of monkeys). No hoopoes unfortunately (we think they’re all off on some secret adventure), but there were still many beautiful birds to see!

Rolling Out Playtests:

Leading up to the demo, we gave early access to some of the over 12,000 playtesters who had signed up on Steam! To everyone that playtested and gave us feedback, thank you so much! It really helped us in making the best demo possible. We’ll do more invitation-based playtesting in the future, so if you didn’t get a chance this time round, there will be more opportunities to help us shape the game.

Wrapping Up & What’s Next:

We’ve been featured in a few showcases since announcement, notably Six One Indie, Afro Game Showcase, and Courage Cologne at Gamescom. Katie and Leon headed over to Gamescom to get Feather’s Edge under a different kind of spotlight (the business kind). It was really motivating to see how industry folks resonated with the game and we felt very encouraged from the trip.

Another showcase to look forward to is The MIX on 16 October where we have something cool to show! We will reveal our new trailer, handcrafted by the fine folks at Studio Bo! A massive thank you to Richard, Simon, Kirsten and Jake for all their hard work. Keep an eye out on our socials for The MIX notifications and trailer content!

We’d like to say thank you again to everyone who has playtested, given us feedback, played the demo, or engaged with our social media. Your support means everything to us and we’re excited to keep working towards cool Feather’s Edge content, updates, and more!
